Capturing human emotion and natural beauty

New Zealand Adventures

A place for us to document our New Zealand travels and for you to follow along if you’re interested! We’ll be posting as we’re able, but it will likely depend on the availability of wifi along the way.

Oh, the planning. . .

Guys. . .

Over the past 2 weeks, we have officially left our jobs, and we have moved out of our wonderful Columbus apartment. We have been “mooching” off our families and friends for food and shelter. So really, we have willingly made ourselves unemployed and homeless. Are we nuts?! Yea probably. The good kind though, right? Yea for sure, for sure. . .

Now that we are homeless and have all of this free time on our hands, we have been digging a bit more into planning/preparation for our trip. We get to shop in outdoorsy stores and actually PURCHASE things from them! We’ve spent hours in coffee shops researching everything from banking in New Zealand and driving laws (how to drive on the wrong side of the road!), to “Do Kiwis grow kiwis?” and “What kind of penguins are in New Zealand?”. We definitely still feel like we don’t know enough, and that we’re going to have some surprises when we get there, but that’s half the fun, right? Maybe just 45%. .  .

Along with the oh so fun planning side is the actual preparation! This includes the best shopping I (Ashley) have ever done. In my life. Ever. We’ve always gone into outdoor stores and drooled over the clothing and gear, but now we got to buy some of the things we drooled over for so long! We each got 48 liter backpacks that will hold most of our belongings for the next few months, and smaller day packs (about normal backpack size) which will hold the rest of our things and will function as carry-ons for our flights! We also go some cool odds and ends (which honestly might be my favorite part haha), and some cool hiking clothes which make us excited when we think about where we will soon be using them! Another fun part of the preparation was being able to head up to Cuyahoga National Park with our 48 liter packs jammed full of clothes to practice walking with all of our goods on our backs. This is the kind of trip prep that I’m down with!

We have about one full week left until we take our one-way tickets and begin our 36 hour journey to New Zealand! So crazy. . Until then, we are just going to continue to read and prepare as much as we can, as well as spend some quality time with our rockin’ friends and family!
